About the Program:
Shochugeiko can be translated as the intensive summer training. The main purpose of Shochugeiko is a struggle against oneself and overcoming personal boundaries. Through hard and long hours of training during the hot days you can reach the heightsof physical and mental effort. In this way you can find your true limits, which may lay well outside what you thought. The intensive training session builds your power and strengthens your fighting spirit to face the adversities in daily life. Passing through Shochugeiko can be a very nurturing experience towards self – understanding and your study of Aikido.
Instruction by Chief Instructor of Aikido World Alliance will provide many new experiences and push your Aikido training to the maximum. The teaching of manual techniques – Tai Jutsu and using traditional weapons – Buki Waza will all be covered during a week – long training.
Instructor Seminar was an event started by Fumio Toyoda Shihan as a way to standardize Aikido techniques and to develop high quality teaching methodologies. Aikido World Alliance carries on this tradition. Learning how to teach Aikido techniques versus practicing Aikido techniques is the cornerstone of the Instructor Seminar. The emphasis is much more on acquiring teaching tools or methods of presentation to students rather than intensive or hard physical training. You are there to learn how Aikido works and what the details are to make them work and then how to transmit it to the students. The Instructor Seminar is a time for sharing friendships, personal networking among the organizational members and the mentoring of young upcoming Yudansha. The seminar allows the Chief Instructor to observe his instructors, how they are developing their Aikido and work with them to insure the stability and future of the Aikido World Alliance.
From attendance at the Instructor Seminar you achieve organizational certification at various teaching levels:
Jyoshu (Assistant): 1 – 2 kyu Fukushidoin (Assistant Instructor): 1 – 3 dan Shidoin (Instructor): 4 dan
Attendance certification is valid for two years. For all AWA Yudansha it is a requirement for dan testing rank advancement.
About the Instructor:
Andrew Masaru Sato Sensei is a full-time Aikido instructor. He began his Aikido training in 1977 under Fumio Toyoda Shihan (6 dan Aikikai) and practiced with him almost 25 years, first as a member of the Ki Aikido Society, then the Aikido Association of America and Aikido Association International. After Toyoda Sensei’s passing, from 2002 until the end of 2004, Andrew M. Sato Sensei served as the Chief Instructor of both the AAA and AAI.
In 2005 he founded the Aikido World Alliance, which is directly affiliated under Aikikai Foundation in Japan. Andrew M. Sato Sensei regularly teaches Aikido in America, Europe and Asia. In 2014 he awarded Shihan staus by Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba.
About the Hosting Dojo:
Aikido Wadokan Dojo was established in Gdynia, Poland in 1997. Its founder is Tomasz Tyszka Sensei (4 dan Aikikai). The name of Wadokan was given by Fumio Toyoda Shihan – President of Aikido Association International in 1998. Aikido Wadokan Dojo was one of the first AAI dojo in Poland and was an active member up to 2009.
Later, a very close cooperation was started with Andrew M. Sato Sensei, the Founder of the Aikido World Alliance and direct student of Fumio Toyoda Shihan. Aikido Wadokan Dojo became the first official representative of AWA in Europe.
